Senator Ted Kennedy Could Have Helped Senator Patrick Kennedy
Monday, 08 May 2006
When one's parent has a drug/alcohol problem, it's highly likely the child will, also. So, why didn't the father take preventive measures, that is, educate the son, get him early counseling? Money not an object. Ignorance not a possibilty. After all, Ted Kennedy's early alcoholism, while driving, is speculated to have caused a young girl's death. To add an unhappy footnote to it all, Joan Kennedy, Patrick's mother, Ted Kennedy's former wife, is reported to also have alcohol problems.
And, yes, I'm retroactively and continuously amazed Senator Kennedy was never legally charged in any way with regard to Mary Jo Kopechne. Amazed still, he remains a major political force, that people "admire" him. But, on to today's question. What happened to his and his wife's responsibility toward son, Patrick, and their other two children?

I look back in my records and see, 2/12/06, I sent a proposal to Senator Ted to print and distribute to Massachussetts families a minimum of 5,000 Family Workbooks, which would include a message from Senator Ted to Massachussetts parents. A topic, I thought, on which he'd have personal, professional interest. However, no response. No interest. A dull thud.

I'll bet Father Ted is proud son Patrick is a "chip-off-the-old-political-block". A six-term Senator. Power. Money. Alcohol/drug abuse. Yes, alcohol is a drug..... Following in his father's footsteps in every way. No, Patrick didn't cause anyone's death... not yet, just plowed his vehicle into a Washington DC security barrier at 3:00am, then can't remember a thing. Drugs, not alcohol.

Well, I'm sorry. The person I'm still sad for is young, pretty Mary Jo Kopechne. She's dead. Senator Ted parties onward. I've always wanted to create a virtual quilt for alcohol/drug abuse victims, like Mary Jo. Those who die due to using. Those who die because someone else is using. A "drug/alcohol victim's virtual quilt", if you will.
