Our Back-to-School Backpack Program for Underpriveleged Children Please Help Us with the Hugs Not Drugs® Annual Back-to-School Backpack Program.

It is that time of year again, when we ask all of you to help out with this most important fund raiser. Each year, HUGS NOT DRUGS®. strives to reach our goal of providing backpacks and school supplies to underprivileged children. Last year, with public generosity, we made our 500 backpack goal. To begin the school year, we made sure each child at our adopted elementary school had a new backpack filled with supplies. This year our chosen school is North Grade Elementary in Lake Worth. Of the almost 800 students enrolled, 76% live in near poverty.

If we all chip in something, no child would go without their needed school supplies, the same supplies most of us took for granted, when we went to school. We ask each of you for a minimum donation of $5. When store sales are good, your $5.00 will often purchase one backpack. If you are able to send more than $5.00, please do, as these children are in desperate need of our help.

The children are always so very, very grateful and have work hard in school, as a result. For instance, the school we helped last year, brought the state school grade up from a "D" to an "A" - no small accomplishment. The pride these kids feel, while carrying a new backpack and new supplies, play a part in their wanting to excel and achieve higher goals each year. The excitement and joy on their faces, as they choose their backpack, is an unparalleled sight. With your help, we'll continue helping them achieve their goals. Early education makes a difference. Happy productive children are less likely to turn to drug use and crime. Our goal is 800 backpacks this year.
